June 1844–December 1844, Letters 1618–1798

Volume 9 sheds new light on EBB’s Poems (1844), which is published by Moxon in August; the American edition follows in October. Further correspondence with Cornelius Mathews includes her contract with the American publisher Henry G. Langley. EBB sends presentation copies to Carlyle, Jameson, Martineau, and Wordsworth, among others. RB’s contributions to Hood’s Magazine appear in the June, July, and August issues. He corresponds frequently with that periodical’s acting editor, F.O. Ward. The day before EBB’s volumes are published, RB leaves on his second trip to Italy. He will not see her poem “Lady Geraldine’s Courtship” and its reference to him until he returns in December.
